Mike absolutely loves
There is so much competition and comparison in our lives. We look at people's clothes, trips, money, physical appearance, talents, jobs, and the lists go on and on. It's easy to be unsatisfied with what we have and want more, and even on occasion want other people's lives... For example, I love new clothes. What girl doesn't?! I'm the first to say I love looking at fashion blogs and see what fun outfits people are wearing and coming up with. But it made me realize something. Over Thanksgiving I was talking to my sister about what we wanted for Christmas. During the conversation, I kind of realized that even if I got clothes for Christmas, I was still going to want the "new" thing a couple weeks later. There is always going to be something newer and better that I see someone wearing and wish I had it. We can never be satisfied with what we have... Or maybe I'm the only one! And don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with getting new clothes [I still got some for Christmas] but I just think in general my thought-process with the whole thing has gone way overboard and I need to tone it back to being happy with what I have. While it's always fun to look, I'm happy with the things :)
There is a difference with being unsatisfied with our lives and wanting to improve, to grow and to learn - which we should all be trying to do. No one is perfect. But each person is beautiful and unique in their own way. We should all take a line from Mr. Bruno Mars and realize "you are amazing, just the way you are" (no matter how cheesy it may sound).
I love that quote! Thank you for sharing.

so true!!!
ReplyDeleteLove this, reminds me of the Dove slogan (I think? ;))..."love the skin you're in"
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your last sentence - So many people confuse wanting change with needing a little improvement. Thank you for writing that. I'll have to remember that the next time I complain. . .
ReplyDeleteThis is so true! I am so guilty of looking at fashion blogs and wanting the lives/clothes/bodies of the bloggers I admire. Infact, when I started my blog, I really wanted it to be a fashion blog. However, after I took a little break from blogging, I realized that fashion blogging is just not for me. It was such a relief to stop being something that I am not.
ReplyDeleteI also love what you said about being unsatisfied and wanting to improve. In the past, I think I was very unsatisfied. I used to make these mile long lists of how I was going to completely change and be the best possible person ever. But expectations like that are so unrealistic. I am beginning to learn that its the little changes and improvements that are what really matter, and what really add up. And this post just helped solidify that even more.
Thanks so much for these words of wisdom! (:
such a good point that I often find myself realizing! especially with shopping, I am constantly thinking I need something new. I don't necessarily always buy it, but I can dream!
ReplyDeleteSo true...there's a difference between being unsatisfied and wanting to improve!

Love this. It's so true! I've been thinking a lot about this recently. I was following a certain girl on blogger & twitter. I just had to unfollow her because she was constantly talking about spending a ton of money with her husband & going on & on about her new outfits and this & that. At first I was intrigued because I love seeing new fashion & hearing about people's trips. But then I came to realize that I was constantly comparing my life to her life. My life is wonderful & I'm happy just the way I am & I wanted the horrible thing of comparing to just go away. I am so happy with my life and how things are going. You need to be sure and always stay positive! And comparing yourself to other people is not a good thing to do.
ReplyDeletehis comment to you was just about the cutest thing ever.
ReplyDeleteand i completely identify with this (: the art of being satisfied is a hard thing to master.
